Self Reflection

Question: Discuss about the Self Reflection. Answer: I can say that I have learned a lot from this management course. I am glad that I have gained not only the theoretical knowledge but I have also learned various practical aspects of management. This paper is divided into three parts. In the first part, I have discussed the four subjects of management that I found most interesting. The first part discusses my reflection on these four subjects. In the second part, I have discussed the four key theories that I have learned in this course. In the third part, I have discussed on how my level of understanding of both the subjects and the theoretical models has developed an advanced level of knowledge for me as an effective manager. The four key subjects that I would like to discuss as part of this reflection are strategic management, leadership strategies for a changing world, strategic human resource management and corporate social responsibility. The critical analysis of these subjects can be discussed as: Strategic Management: In this course, I have learned about various aspects of strategic management. I have learned that organizations must have a mission and vision in place and the strategies must be developed and executed to achieve the mission and vision. Leadership strategies for a changing world: When doing business with companies that have disengaged employees, I am also not as motivated to do business with them. I find that as a consumer, it is so easy to identify those organizations where there is a lack of focus and effort by the followers. Part of successful execution of servant leadership is to create a lasting impact on the culture. When leaders command their employees, they often create an atmosphere of pressure which can lead to a lack of satisfaction with their jobs, which has an impact on the way they treat their customers. Strategic human resource management: I have learned that human resource management is an integral function for any organization as people are the biggest asset for any organization. Most of the research that has been completed shows an increased level of effectiveness with attaining goals and completing job requirements in shorter deadlines for followers under leaders. Because of this research as well as the studies of others being so clear, taking the time to educate leaders about all of the positive correlations and benefits that have been seen will certainly help to implement these principles more effectively (Lewis Andriopoulos, 2014). I think that there could also be a great deal of value in presenting some of these HRM case studies within other organizations to show how great leaders can move their organization in any direction desired for sustainable development. Corporate social responsibility: With this course, I have learned the importance of corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. Current research reveals when employees establish and maintain high-quality relationships with their direct supervisor along with goal resemblance and social interaction, the environment is accelerated with positive energy levels, and its an important source of employee work motivation (Birasnav, 2014). key theories and application In all the subjects of management, I have learned various management theories. The four key theories from the management subjects can be discussed as: Servant leadership theory: Servant leadership varies from traditional methods of leadership because it focuses more on the relationship with followers, and less on the actions of the individual leader. Servant leadership, although quite valuable, is not always the best method of leadership in all circumstances. Servant leadership works best in situations where followers are highly motivated. Depending on the level of motivation, there are other types of leadership such as transformational and autocratic leadership that may be more appropriate (Vidic Burton, 2011). In many other forms of leadership, you are often selling a vision to followers, whereas within servant leadership you are building that vision collectively with them. Understanding the circumstances and leadership intention is essential to determining the most effective leadership style. Strategic management theory of competitive advantage: I have learned that there are two key approaches or theories of strategic management. The first approach is cost leadership approach and the second approach is product differentiation approach. The organizations like Walmart use cost leadership approach and an example for product differentiation would be Apple. The companies which have a unique and different product would often charge premium prices for their products. Omar Leach (2014) indicated that some managers make changes based on environmental changes for the sake of change and to increase social perception of the firm, regardless of the effectiveness of the change. This can prove to be a waste of time and money in the long run. PESTLE analysis: The PESTLE analysis is a powerful tool to assess the external environment. Despite the problems that could arise, I assert that it is still beneficial to engage in many of the theoretical tenets of Open Systems because the environment is rapidly changing and being engaged in it can prevent the organization from dissolving completely (Jackson Schuler, 2014). For example, organizations, which are affected by the legal environment or the political environment benefit from an open system view because the open systems view promotes flexibility and adaption to the environment (Westley Mintzberg, 1989). Conversely, the problems that could arise from open systems stem from the vulnerability to misread and misinterpret the environment. A leaders or managers ability to take into consideration all facets of the external environmental components affecting the organization can pose another challenge. Change management theories like Lewin change management model, Kotter change management model, etc.: With strategic human resource management course, I have learned that change management is an integral part for any organization. For any organization, the change agents should be authentic; build trust, and are committed to a flexible pursuit to find the best potential for themselves and those around them (Boone Makhani, 2012). In addition, servant leaders are also empathetic and open communicators that work together with their followers to solve complex problems (Vidic Burton, 2011). Self-Reflection There is one common thing that I have learned across all the subjects. That, the significance of learning and knowledge to every organization cannot be overemphasized. Knowledge includes all forms of content such as objects, information, data and wisdom. It is gathered from individuals, communities, networks and the internet. For organizational knowledge to add value to the organization, there must be an effective knowledge transfer and process in place. According to Herrmann Nadkarni (2014), certain factors can cause barriers to effective knowledge sharing; they include: organizational culture, language difference, control and hoarding, incentives and motivation, difficulty in explaining and inadequate technology. For knowledge to be efficiently shared and add value in the organization, employees must be made to commit and be truly involved in their work; this may be achieved by inculcating employee ownership. Executive management should also strive to engage their employees, this way they would be able to match projects to employee passion and proficiency. Change does not occur by itself. Personal energy and effort are required to promote a new idea successfully (Barrick Colbert, 2014). I anticipate the greatest challenge of operationalizing strategy across business functions will be to get all stakeholders to buy into the new strategy. Within the organization I work for, the mission, vision and strategy have historically been the same. To add a definition or facet or direction to the strategy will be difficult. Many of the employees including leadership are not creative. Rules are encouraged and enforced, a traditional authoritarian style of leadership exist within the organization. In a culture that is stagnant learning and growth does not come easily. The internal business process does not seek innovation or next generation educational modalities (Nijstad Berger-Selman, 2014). I have learned that the first step for management is people management. It made me think how trust is so important in an organization. People need to feel valued and that their opinions and thoughts matter. I think sometimes people are afraid to speak up and voice their concerns or let on that they dont know something. If they had voiced their opinion it may have led to deeper thoughts and different outcomes. At times, I feel insecure and need to remind myself that my superiors expect me to be the knowledge holder for my departments. Thats why Im there. They really do trust and rely on me to tell them when I have another idea or a doubt about one. Thankfully in my organization I trust my administrators because I feel they trust me. I have learned that greatest learning is learning from people. I have learned that management is much more about transactional management. I have witnessed many times throughout my life that when a manager was not willing to champion the ideas of upper management and resisted the change, it would fail in that area but not in others where the change was supported and championed. Understanding the role of mid-level management and the impact on the organization is crucial (Mujtaba, 2013). Although we will not always agree, once a decision has been made it is vital that we support the change and do what we can do lessen the resistance below us and not fight the change our organization is supporting. I would like to say that the managers and employees of an organization have a huge impact on the organizations ability to innovate and change. OReilly Tushman (2004) suggested that while the failure to achieve innovative breakthroughs is the battleground for management theory. It was found in their research that all types of innovation can have different targets but understanding customers is the way to be creative. OReilly Tushman (2004) suggested using a Map of Innovation to plot the targets on a matrix. One thing I have not seen in the literature, but have seen in person, is that a toxic leader not only costs their employers money as the company is in a constant search for replacement employees, but they can have long lasting negative impacts on those they manage. It is very important to establish a good thing with your staff because you have to know what you are dealing with when it comes to leadership in the company. When you have several of the same type of business going on around you and you are trying to compare what theyre doing with what youre doing it starts with the leading of the company. You have to make sure that you have the ability to work with all types of individuals daily. And you have to make sure that you are doing well with these people also making sure that they know what theyre doing at all times and that it is pleasing to to the public eye as well as the company eye. As a conclusion, I would like to say that I have learned a lot about management from this course. I am sure that the learning would help me to emerge as a better manager. In fact, more than a better manager, I would like to emerge as a leader. I am very much fascinated about the servant leadership style and I would definitely like to practice this style of leadership along with the transformational leadership style in my professional experience. Background of OIT project OIT stands for Office of Information Technology, the department which looks after the needs related to IT infrastructure maintenance, providing training etc. at Silicon Forest State University. At this university they have ticketing software to manage and track the bugs. The users working for interfaces use different software than the server guys who actually perform the job in case of bugs. Due to different software, manual work increases and so the chances of error. So, head of University IT department decided to change the software of whole university according to that of back end users. Ron Bashley was assigned the job to act as lead and for supporting him Harry Bonnett and Bob Biyon were nominated but the former is from another department of similar level to Ron and the latter is from the other institution all together. Risk Management Plan of OIT project This planning document should become the part of the overall project management. But to discuss it separately, it is the written approach or procedure which needs to take for different kinds of risks and project. This document varies from project to project depending on the types, location, culture, hazards, and uncertainties of project. There are few common steps which need to be done to address each risk first is to identify the risks and their consequences, then need to do the analysis by providing some more information regarding the probability of occurring the risk and if it happens how much it can impact the project (called probability impact matrix), on the basis of the analysis the risks are categorized as per the severity and then plan to mitigate those risks by either eliminating form the project or reducing its impact[2]. So to develop this document we shall perform the similar task for OIT project. Identify Risk in OIT project The risks must be identified thoroughly so that no risks must be such which are not identified. This process starts from the owner of the system[3]. Few identified risks present in OIT project are: Risk 1. (Raised by Ron Bashley on 15th August 2017): there is a risk of developing some communication gap between the user interface (Rons team) and the software updating (Harrys team) and may become big issue. Risk 2. (Raised by Harry Bonnett on 20th August 2017): there is a risk of getting some bugs error in the system from users end, due to non-functioning of Request Tracker during project phase and if the necessary changes are made in back end, then it may cause huge problem Opportunity 3. (Raised by Pike Gresham on 24th August 2017): there is a good opportunity to complete the work before the schedule period of six months, this can really minimize the risk of miss communication and gap. Risk Analysis of OIT project The probability of occurring each risk is assessed and if it happens then how much it can impact the project either way is measured in this section[4]. On the basis of the ratings given to any risk number, the probability and its impact analysis is done. Risk 1. Probability is high and impact is also high. Risk 2. Probability is high but impact is low. Opportunity 3. Probability is low and impact is also low. Risk response plan The plan which is developed to increase the chances of happening opportunities and to reduce the chances of occurring any risk is known as the response plan[5]. From the above diagram it is concluded that the probability and impact of: Risk 1 is HIGH: to minimize the severity rate of occurring the risk should be avoided. It can be reduced by conducting more personal interactions and frequent review meetings to narrow the information gap between the teams. Risk 2 is MEDIUM: the mitigation plan is same, need to increase the frequency of review meeting Opportunity 3 is LOW: few more additional resource allotments to project from other departments may help in expediting. Monitor and Control Risks Now once the mitigation plan is also developed the only remaining activity in risk management is the proper implementation at execution stage and monitoring the status of risks during every review meetings. Even the new risks need to be keep on searching, if found then again the steps discussed above need to be performed for the risk till some mitigation plan is developed. Justification All the processes considered for the development of risk management plan for OOIT project is as per the standards of the project management techniques starting from the Risk Identification, Risk Analysis, Rating of risks and Mitigation Planning are professionally done. So it is recommended to follow the process in case of any new risk is identified. Conclusion This can be concluded that the risks are the events which can cause either positive or put negative impacts on the three constraints of the project. So at the beginning stage of the project itself, the probable risks are required to be identified and the analysis mitigation plan are also required to be performed according to the discussed method in this report. In addition to establishing a network of folks who might be able to help you in your search, you can use the platform itself to find advertised positions. New to LinkedIn? Not sure how to leverage your account to help in your search? Here are a few pointers: 1. Your Profile Unlike your resume – which is a static document once you send it out – your LinkedIn profile is a living, breathing, and ever-evolving creation. You can (and should) change it regularly to keep it current. Think twice about publicizing your job search, though. For one, that might not be information you’d like to share with your current employer (who’s likely tracking staffers’ profiles). For another – and possibly more important – reason, announcing the fact that youre looking for a job could make you vulnerable. Recruiters shy away from desperate-looking professionals and have even been known to even weed out profiles containing the word â€Å"seeking.† Thinking about leaving your current job off your profile? Consider this: JobHunt reports that this action could drop your ranking and push your profile â€Å"several pages lower than what it would have been.† Of course, if your current job isn’t something you’d like to publicize, by all means omit it. 2. Your Keywords Keywords have become a big deal in today’s job market.  TopResume tells us, â€Å"The algorithm behind LinkedIn looks at keyword density to rank your profile in a search.† Sure, this might sound daunting, but the casual consumer does essentially the same thing: When you search for ANYTHING online, you want only the most applicable results. Same goes for recruiters. They are looking for candidates with very specific skills, and they target their searches to find only those who fit the bill. This means that your LinkedIn profile needs to include those target words. Be sure to use the exact wording of those desired skillsets included in the job posting. Try this hack: Copy the position description into a free word cloud app. WordItOut is particularly user-friendly and lets you visualize a summary of the qualifications that the posting highlights most. Meanwhile, JobHunt claims that â€Å"the keywords in the Job Title field (an area highly indexed within LinkedIn’s search algorithm) can draw additional traffic to your profile.† And adding the sought-after keywords in your Skills Endorsements section can also increase your page ranking and profile views. 3. Your Photo Definitely post a current, professional-looking headshot. Recruiters tend to think that profiles without photos look suspicious. Plus, LinkedIn flags photo-less profiles as â€Å"incomplete,† which can negatively impact your search rankings. One statistic even claims that profiles with photos get up to 21 times more views. 4. Your Search Use the â€Å"Jobs† tab to search by keyword, country, and even zip code. Use â€Å"Advanced Search† to refine your search by date posted, experience level, specific location, job function, company, and industry. If you have a specific company in mind, visit the company profile to see if they’ve posted job openings on their LinkedIn pages. LinkedIn can also save your job searches and send you emails about new job postings. 5. Your Contacts Before applying, secure an introduction so someone will be watching for your application. In addition to linking with colleagues from your current endeavors, join your university alumni group to connect with names from your past. 6. Your Connections Remember that old party game, â€Å"Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?† That’s kind of how LinkedIn works. Your contacts – or connections – are organized into   a hierarchy of first-degree connections (people you know directly), second-degree connections (people who have connections in common), and so on. Ask your first-degree connections if they can introduce you. Additionally, you could see if any of your LinkedIn contacts works there or knows someone who works there. Once you’ve applied, don’t just sit back and worry that your application got lost in cyberspace. LinkedIn makes it possible to find contact information for the actual hiring manager, using the search bar at the top of the page. Click â€Å"People,† then input your target company name in the â€Å"Current companies† filter pane for a list of employees. Social Media Presence Have you Googled yourself today? Since you’re already updating your LinkedIn profile, it’s a good time to consider your online reputation. Add to that reports that 54% of employers say they have chosen another candidate after viewing the applicant’s social media profile and another 57% report being less likely to even interview someone they can’t find online, and the implications are clear: You must be active online to be competitive in the job market. And being active is more than just setting up your LinkedIn profile. Sure, that’s a good first step. And keeping it current is another. You read that correctly. And six seconds isn’t a lot of time. You need to â€Å"impress the judges† from the get-go with relevant details they can’t turn away. So how do you do that? What are the new â€Å"rules† of resume writing? What’s changed over the past decade or so since you last actively sent out your resume? For one, you’ll be doing a lot more fill-in-the-blank online application forms these days. Still, keeping these tips in mind will beef up your resume so yours is sharp when you hand over a copy during a discussion about hidden jobs. 1. Forego Your Physical Address Gone are the days of including your physical address. Hiring managers don’t send job offers through the mail anymore, so they don’t need to know where you live. They do, however, need to have an easy way to find you to schedule a meeting or even offer you the job. Make it easy for them by providing your email address, your phone number, and (yes, you guessed it!) your LinkedIn profile link. 2. Choose Your Email Address Wisely If it’s been long enough, your last resume might not have even included an email address. That’s a must now – as is using an adult email address. Your resume is all about first impressions. Can you really expect a hiring manager to contact you via [emailprotected]? Even if you’re emotionally invested in that email address you set up in college, get yourself a professional-sounding handle for all your job search communications. 3. Give Yourself a Title Add a concise (two- or three-word) position title that summarizes your skills as a professional. Run this just underneath your contact information as a quick way for recruiters to know what you do (or what you want to do for their company). 4. Use Plenty of White Space Use plenty of cushion around the key ideas you want to be particularly noticeable. Too much copy overwhelms the reader. If your resume is hard to read, recruiters won’t bother. This means that you shouldn’t cram your resume onto one page. Keep as much white space as you need, flowing onto two (or even three) pages in a very readable font, ideally at least 11-point type. 5. Take Action Use strong verbs and be concise. If you’re stuck using the same mundane words, check out this amazingly comprehensive compilation of resume-worthy verbs from The Muse. Describe your job responsibilities with the concrete skills you’ve honed over your tenure in the position. Better yet, detail your accomplishments and how your successes help the company. Provide specific measurements whenever possible. While that resume tip hasn’t changed over time, there are a couple â€Å"accomplishments† you should omit at this point. Don’t claim to be an expert in Word and Excel. These â€Å"skills† are assumed at this point. And don’t state, â€Å"References available upon request.† That, too, is a given in today’s hiring world. 6. Mirror the Lingo Many hiring managers try to save time by using software like an applicant tracking system (ATS) to scan applications for keywords and weed out the ones that don’t belong. Estimates vary, but reports indicated that more than three-fourths of resumes never even make it across recruiters’ desks – the ATS rejects them outright for missing the right keywords. Sounds a bit daunting†¦ all the more reason to make sure that your resume, just like your LinkedIn profile, contains some of â€Å"the right words.† Match the exact wording used in the job post.  JobScan is a handy way to compare the content of your resume with the language of the position listing to help earn you a nod. 7. Keep it Scannable Employers will scan your document in a â€Å"Z pattern.†Ã‚  They start at the top left, scan to the top right, then move quickly down to the lower left, and end on the lower right (remember, this only takes about six seconds!). So, the strategy is to keep the important details toward the top left (above the top third of the page) and the extra niceties toward the lower right. 8. Ditch the Objective In the past, many professionals were encouraged to add a few sentences to the top of their resumes that described their ideal positions. But let’s face it: Recruiters today don’t care about what kind of work you want. Instead, you need to convince them of why you’re the best person for the job at hand. Replace your old objective statement of â€Å"Avid bird-watcher in search of pet-sitting opportunity† with a professional profile of â€Å"Animal lover with 20 years of providing the best in-home care for pets.† 9. Highlight Key Skills What are the 8-10 main skills you most want to highlight about yourself? Think of the tasks you complete regularly and how you most help your company; when possible, include things you can quantify. Another â€Å"new† trend is to include a two-column list under your professional profile. Keep in mind that resume format options are infinite and extremely personal. And your resume, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. If your ideal job is a straight-laced corporate position, opting for a more traditional black-and-white resume. A role in the arts might lend itself more to a bolder look. Regardless: Clean, concise, and easy to read are always the best choices.

It is important to be sensitive not only to the physical limitations of patients but to their emotional limitations as well. I am motivated to become a physical therapist because I want to enhance physical health, fitness and quality of life to adults and children. A good physical therapist is just as important as a good doctor. I know how devastating injuries can be to a person physically and mentally. In accident victims and individuals with disabling conditions, I understand how important it is to help people restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health. Therapists can change peoples lives by lifting their spirits and helping them get their quality of life back, and I would like to be a part of that. I have spent my life around active people. I have participated in athletics since I was very young and have played contact sports. I have excelled in baseball, and its the primary reason that I am choosing this specialty. Physical therapy can help the not so active people also. My mother has a neurological degenerative disease that causes her muscles to stiffen up, so it is very important for her to keep up with her range of motion, so that everyday tasks are easier on her. My aunt is another person in my life who has benefited from physical therapy in a dramatic way; she suffered a stroke about a year ago. She was confined to a wheel chair, and with the help of continual physical therapy, the use of her chair has been limited. My cousin works as head of the PT department at Staten Island University Hospital, and speaking with her, I have learned how demanding, and rewarding PT can be. I would like to work in the physical therapy industry as a sports trainer. I like the idea of being around sports while dealing with medicine and sport injuries. My goal would be to work with high school athletes anywhere up to professional athletes. My priority would be to make sure all my patients are successful and happy on their road to recovery. I know that I have the qualities that will make me successful to excel in PT.

He used women to express how humanity was being repressed, because normally women are the repressed ones in our society. Hence, a shadow of feminism is there, which cannot be denied. We come to know this when Mrs. Linde says, â€Å"I only feel my life unspeakably empty. No one to live for anymore†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (Ibsen 19), which shows how she lived life serving others and not herself. The play shows the couple leading themselves to the dissolution of their marriage, because they were not able to understand the status of one another. For Ibsen, a marriage is successful if the two spouses come to join one another on an equal level. The couple must understand that none of the two is supposed to be dominant or recessive. The disparity of power leads to problems and misunderstandings. Torvald has been shown as a dominant, providing husband; while, Nora is a recessive wife who dreads the disclosure of her crime over her husband, like when she says, â€Å"†¦how painful and humiliating it would be for Torvald, with his manly independence, to know that he owed me anything. It would upset our mutual relations altogether †¦Ã¢â‚¬  (Ibsen 23-24). She gets blackmailed by Krogstad. Torvald treats his wife as an inferior being, by calling her by pet names, as he says, â€Å"Is it my little squirrel bustling about?† (Ibsen 8).
